Welcome to blog post number 5. 3 weeks of my internship are now over. Which means I’m living already 3 weeks in a different country. Wow – I still can’t believe how fast time flies by and what differences I already discovered in comparison to Germany. Did you know that paying with cash in Sweden is basically extinct? Cash only? Really hard to find. No cash – card only! Or that the public transportation ticket system is very easily in your pocket with an app? That makes your phone even more important than it already was. Will this be our future, is this heaven or really concerning…? 🤔
@work
So what did we achieve this weekend? I think some important steps so far – we finally got our Amazon Web Service Account approved and we can start setting up a virtual workstation, right?
[insert Anakin and Padme Meme]

Well it is more complicated than I would have guessed. A lot to read about how AWS wants you to run things, how you should setup things and all the cool services you could use to run security, servers or maybe do you want to run a blockchain? What did I want to do again?

And then there are some limitations we have to be aware of with what resources (like CPU cores and machines) we can run with our “test account”.
But as a start-up we got provided with 1000$ credits to spend on all the services AWS provides (and they offer a lot). And that’s well needed because AWS can be quite expensive :o. But in the end we were able to run our first test machine with and I was able to install and run all the architect software (we are using Rhino3D with some plugins and 3rd party software) we needed for testing.

Because you basically launch a whole new infrastructure for this WorkSpaces. Will I succeed?

I really hope the Support Team will solve this 🙂
But work is not everything. Breaks and lunch are also important! I’m also getting more comfortable to talk with my colleagues so that’s great. Inside the minc building there is also a restaurant who offers food for around 11€. Common price around here (we are directly in the opposite of the Malmö university library ) but water, bread and salad is included so that’s okay.

after work
Gladly during the work days we still have plenty of time left to plan other fun things or to buy our groceries. Like trips to some beaches to see if it’s worth the stay.
